The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to extend the Continuous Voter Registration exercise that’s ongoing by 60 days. The exercise was initially slated to come to an end by June 30, 2022.
The calls to extend the CVR exercise came following the increase in registrants registering for the Voter cards. There has been increase of people in registration centres in Lagos, Abuja and South-East States.
Hon. Aishatu Jubril Dukku, chairman of the house of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, said this while briefing her colleagues on the committee’s efforts to ensure thet the house resolution last week was implemented.
The house of Representatives had last Wednesday asked INEC to extend the deadline for CVR by an extra 60days to enable more citizens register so they can exercise their right to vote.
They also urged the commission to deploy more staff and Voter Registration machines across the country.
