Obasanjo who was the former president of Nigeria from 1999-2007 had said he made a mistake picking Atiku Abubakar as his Vice president ahead of the 1999 presidential election.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had threatened to expose the former head of state to Nigerians if he fails to clarify his comment about his then vice Atiku Abubakar within 48 hours.
The former president said God saved him from the mistake of choosing Atiku to be his running mate. He disclosed this while speaking in Abeokuta at a leadership and entrepreneurship mentoring session with selected school students.
“One of the mistakes I made was picking a number two when I was going to become President. But because it is a genuine mistake, God saved me out of it,” Mr Obasanjo said.
PDP reacted to this statement and has given Obasanjo 48 hours to clarify his comment about Atiku or he would be exposed.
Senator Wahid Jibril, the PDP’s Board of Trustees Chairman issued the threat in Kaduna on Monday, June 27, 2022, said PDP would tell Nigerians who Obasanjo really is, if he doesn’t Clarify his statement.
The senator said, “I wish to appeal to former President Obasanjo to come out, openly to repeat what he has said, whether or not he was misquoted or meant what was credited to him.
“Although he has not debunked what was reported, one can assume that what was quoted to have been said by him is correct, but if he fails to openly come out and say which is correct in 48 hours, you will hear the bombardment and I will have no option but to break the egg and tell the whole world and Nigerians who Obasanjo is.
“There’s no doubt Obasanjo may still be angry with Atiku even after helping him to succeed but perhaps for truncating his third term agenda. In any case, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku is our presidential candidate, and I can tell you for sure that he will be the president in 2023 Insha Allah”.
