In response to the recent protest against the emergence of Sen. Bola Tinubu as President-elect on April 3 in the U.S, the All Progressives Congress (APC) United States National Youth Leader, Oyakhilome Bello, has stated that the call by some individuals lacks merit. Bello, who is also the Deputy Director North America Youth Wing Campaign Council, dismissed the protest against Tinubu’s emergence by some opposition groups at a park in front of the White House on Thursday as baseless and unlikely to produce any result. He emphasized that the presidential election that produced Tinubu as the president-elect on Feb. 25 was free, fair, and credible, and that the former two-term Lagos State governor won the election fairly.
According to Bello, Nigerians should not be worried about recent developments and should instead remain calm and peaceful. The APC U.S has plans to mobilize genuine Nigerians to counter any protests and to protect Tinubu’s mandate.
Bello further stated that the chapter is committed to ensuring that those protesting against Tinubu’s emergence as president-elect will not succeed in disrupting Nigeria’s peace and stability. He urged all patriotic Nigerians to unite and work towards the country’s unity and peace, and to support Tinubu and Vice-President elect, Sen. Kashim Shettima, in building a better Nigeria for all.
Bello also clarified that there was no mandate stolen, as alleged by opposition parties, since the Nigerian electorate freely gave their mandate to Tinubu during the polls.
