Patas Monkey
The Patas Monkey also known as the red monkeys are only found in West Africa including Nigeria. They have reddish-brown fur and distinctive white mustache-like markings around their mouth. These highly agile creatures can run at speeds up to 34 miles per hour which makes them fastest primates on earth.
African Elephant
Found mostly in the northern parts of the country particularly Yankari National Park , African elephants are one of largest land mammals in existence today . They can weigh up to several tons and stand more than three meters tall at shoulder height. An elephant’s trunk contains about 100,000 different muscles allowing them pick things up or dig for water .
Nile Crocodile
Commonly associated with river Nile but can be found throughout most major rivers across Africa including River Niger , the Nile crocodile is one fierce predator you wouldn’t want to mess with . It measures between four-and-a-half meters (14ft) – six meters (19ft) long when fully grown making it one largest crocodilian species worldwide .
Despite its size they move extremely fast underwater catching prey like fish or even wildebeest off guard.
Okapi
Also known as forest giraffe due its striped legs , Okapis inhabit dense forests mainly Congo Basin but also Cameroon along Nigerian border. They are solitary animals that have been known to come out only at night .
African Gray Parrot
The African grey parrot is native to West and Central Africa, including Nigeria. It is regarded as one of the most intelligent birds in the world, with a vocabulary that can exceed 1,000 words.
