Former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has expressed her reluctance to return to the presidential villa, even if requested. Speaking at a public event on Friday, she described her tenure as the wife of Nigeria’s president as extremely stressful.
“If you call me now for villa, I won’t go there. I won’t. Don’t you see how young I am? The stress is so much,” she said. “The stress of Nigeria is so much. If God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify God and thank Him. It is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes. He has taken you there once, why do you want to go there again? Me, I won’t go oo!!!”
Patience Jonathan’s husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, left the presidential villa in 2015 after losing the election to Muhammadu Buhari. Leading up to the 2023 elections, Goodluck Jonathan was speculated to be a potential candidate for the presidency under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A group allegedly purchased the N100 million primary forms for him, and he was seen with Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the former National Chairman of the party. Reports suggested that Jonathan was encouraged to consider running again.
During her time as First Lady, Patience Jonathan was well-known for her memorable and humorous quotes in pidgin English, such as “na only you waka come.”
