Russian president Vladimir Putin hits back at G7 leaders who threw jabs at his shirtless picture on Thursday, says they would look ‘disgusting’ shirtless if they tried to emulate him.
Putin made the comment during his visit to Turkmenistan on Thursday after Western leaders meeting at the G7 summit made a joke about him, show casing his bare chest to the world.
During the G7 summit, prime minister Boris Johnson kicked things off while gathered around a table with President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and others jested that they could go shirtless to “show that we are tougher than putin.
Canadian premier Justin Trudeau joked that Western leaders could try to match Putin’s naked torso pictures with a “bare-chested horseback riding display,” one of his widely publicized athletic adventures.
“I don’t know how they wanted to get undressed, above or below the waist,” Putin told reporters. “But I think it would be a disgusting sight in any case.”
“It’s necessary to stop abusing alcohol and other bad habits, do physical exercise and take part in sports,” he added.
“Jackets on? Jackets off?” U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said as he and his colleagues discussed Russias ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Trudeau suggested they keep the jackets on long enough to take pictures.
“We are going to get the barechested horseback riding display,” Trudeau added.
Johnson added, “We’ve go to show them our pecs,” while Von der Layen interjected, “Horseback riding is the best.”
Bidden didn’t add to the jokes.
The Russian leader Vladimir Putin has tried to portray himself as a skilled athlete and outdoorsman.
