The Federal Ministry of Education has given the directive for all Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) in Abuja to be closed following security threats on the unity colleges located in the FCT.
This was made known to newsmen on Monday through the Director of press for the Ministry, Mr Ben Goong.
He said the decision was reached as result of rising insecurity and threat to the lives and wellbeing of the students.
An unconfirmed claim had trended on social media on Sunday, indicating that there were heavy shootings at Federal Government College in Kwali, Abuja, a claim which prompted parents to rush to the school to ascertain the safety of their wards and possibly return home with them until calm was restored.
Some of the FGCs had been asked to vacate the school premises on July 20, while others will close on July 26.
However, the FGC, Kwali, had requested parents on July 24 to pick their children on Monday due to directives from the federal ministry of education. (NAN
