Famed Hong Kong movie star, Jackie Chan, has recently divulged the reason why he opted out of joining the ensemble cast of Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables movie series, which already included Hollywood heavyweights like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. Despite being invited to join the all-star team, Chan declined the offer.
According to the Rush Hour actor, he did not outright reject Stallone’s offer but merely felt that the cast was already filled with too many Hollywood legends. As a result, he decided to pass on the opportunity to appear in the action-packed franchise
Jackie Chan confessed that he wouldn’t have objected to a one-on-one combat against Stallone. However, the addition of other performers such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Jason Statham caused him to pull out of the series.
As its name suggests, The Expendables is a group of fighters that traverse the globe on motorcycles and planes. With a cast of iconic names like Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, and Sylvester Stallone, as well as appearances from other seasoned actors, the franchise has gained global admiration for its thrilling action sequences and nostalgic appeal.
Jackie Chan opens up about why he declined to appear in The Expendables sequels despite being offered a role. In a candid interview with Den of Geek, Chan revealed that he found the films to be repetitive and uninteresting. He explained that he didn’t want to be a part of a franchise that offered him only a few minutes of screen time. While he didn’t refuse Sylvester Stallone outright, Chan made it clear that he was not interested in the format of the films. As The Expendables 4 gets underway, it remains to be seen whether Chan’s comments will have any impact on the franchise.
