A New Chapter Begins
Today marks a significant milestone in the captivating love story of pop star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, and his partner, Chioma Rowland, as they celebrate their wedding in a grand ceremony. Last Tuesday, Davido confirmed that their white wedding would take place today in Lagos, following their traditional wedding in 2023. Although the exact venue remains undisclosed, it’s speculated to be either Harbour Point or Eko Hotel, both situated on Victoria Island.
Fans of the “Unavailable” singer have shown immense support and joy for the couple, whose love story has unfolded like a romantic novel. Sources close to Davido and Chioma have revealed that the guest list for this exclusive event includes celebrities from Nigeria and beyond, with attendance strictly by invitation.
The wedding occurs amidst Davido’s ongoing legal battle with his ex-partner, Sophia Momodu, over the custody of their 9-year-old daughter, Imade. Davido’s lawyers have requested joint custody of Imade, born in May 2015. Despite these challenges, Davido’s happiness with Chioma is evident, as he frequently expresses his affection for her publicly.
UK-based Nigerian Pastor Tobi Adeboyega shared a video where an excited Davido invites people to the wedding, saying, “Guys, you have to come to Nigeria on the 25th (of June) for my wedding.” Over the weekend, social media buzzed with pre-wedding photos of Davido and Chioma, shared by the Afrobeat star on Instagram with the hashtag #CHIVIDO2024. Additionally, Davido surprised Chioma with a bridal shower party on Sunday night.
In one of the video clips that surfaced online, Chioma recounted how Davido orchestrated the surprise event. He had convinced her they were going out for dinner, only to lead her to a venue decorated with balloons, where she realized it was her bridal shower. Chioma exclaimed, “Let me tell you a story. I know this is an event center and David said we were going to eat. He was trying to get the exact location and when we got outside, he asked somebody something and I said, ‘This is not a restaurant. I’m hungry, I want to eat.’ Then I saw balloons, I just started screaming.”
As they prepare to exchange vows today, it’s worth reflecting on their journey together. Davido and Chioma met in 2013 at Babcock University, where Davido was studying music and Chioma was pursuing a degree in Economics. Initially friends, their relationship evolved into a romance by 2015. In 2017, Davido publicly introduced Chioma as his girlfriend, showcasing his love by dedicating a song to her and featuring her in the music video for “Assurance.”
Their relationship blossomed, and Chioma gave birth to their son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, on October 20, 2019. Tragically, Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at Davido’s Banana Island residence, leaving the couple devastated. Despite earlier plans to marry in July 2020, the wedding was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2021, reports surfaced of a breakup, fueled by photos of Davido with Instagram model Yafai. Rumors of a fourth baby mama further strained their relationship, leading to a temporary split.
However, the couple eventually reconciled, reigniting their love. Chioma’s attendance at Davido’s concert, captured in a viral video, symbolized their renewed commitment. Today, as they walk down the aisle, Davido and Chioma celebrate not just their union, but their resilience and enduring love.
